    Great Migration Safaris

Follow the herds through calving season, the Western Corridor and the Northern Serengeti on a private safari positioned around your dates.

The Great Migration is not a single event. It is a continuous journey shaped by rain and fresh grazing.

The most rewarding safari begins by matching your travel window to the right part of the Serengeti ecosystem, then allowing enough time for patient, unhurried wildlife viewing.

    A year in motion

    One Migration, Distinct Seasons

Each stage has a different character, from newborn calves on green southern plains to the tense gathering of herds beside northern rivers.

    Calving on the southern plains

From January to March, the herds gather around Ndutu and the Southern Serengeti as newborn calves arrive on the short-grass plains.

    The herds move north

As the long rains ease, wildebeest and zebra travel through the central Serengeti and into the Western Corridor.

    River-crossing season

From July to October, herds gather in the north where Mara River crossings may happen without a fixed timetable. Wondering which side of the border to choose? Compare the Masai Mara vs Serengeti.

No. The herds and river crossings are controlled by rainfall, grazing and animal movement. Crossings can happen without warning, so no responsible operator can guarantee a particular crossing.

Seven to ten days is a strong starting point. It allows time in the migration region plus other rewarding areas such as Ngorongoro and Tarangire, without rushing the journey.

Yes. Calving season generally takes place on the southern plains from January to March. River activity is usually associated with the Western Corridor in June and the Northern Serengeti from July to October.
