    The short answer

A private luxury safari in Tanzania costs about $380–$750 per person per day for mid-luxury and luxury lodges and $1,400–$1,700 per person per day for ultra-luxury camps in 2027. A 5-day Northern Circuit safari starts from about $1,930 per person; a 9-day ultra-luxury migration safari runs $13,000–$15,000 per person. Prices include park fees, accommodation, meals, a private vehicle and guide.

Cost per person per day by tier

The lodge you choose drives most of the price. Park fees, vehicle and guide cost roughly the same at every level.

How group size changes the price

The vehicle, guide and the Ngorongoro Crater fee ($295 per vehicle) are shared, so the per-person price falls as your group grows.

    Tanzania park fees in 2026

Park fees are a fixed part of every safari, whatever the lodge tier. These are non-resident adult rates, including 18% VAT.

ParkFee per person per 24 hours (USD)
Serengeti National Park$82.60 high season, $70.80 low season
    Ngorongoro Conservation Area$70.80
Ngorongoro Crater descent$295 per vehicle, not per person
Tarangire National Park$59.00 high season, $53.10 low season
Lake Manyara National Park$59.00 high season, $53.10 low season

Lodges and camps inside Serengeti also charge a nightly concession fee. Fees are set by TANAPA and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority and can change; we always quote the current rate. These 2026 figures are a planning reference, not confirmed 2027 tariffs.

    What drives the price

    1. Lodge tier. Moving from mid-luxury to ultra-luxury roughly triples the daily cost.
    2. Season. July–October and the January–February calving season are the most expensive. April and May are the lowest. See our best time to visit guide.
    3. Group size. Two travellers pay the most per person; six pay the least.
    4. Driving or flying. Light-aircraft flights between parks save time but add to the cost; we quote them separately.
    5. Location in the park. Camps that follow the migration or sit in exclusive areas cost more than lodges on the main routes.

How to get more for your budget

    • Travel in the green season. November, early December, April and May bring lower lodge rates and far fewer vehicles. See our best time to visit guide.
    • Travel as a group of four to six. Shared vehicle and crater costs bring the per-person price down by up to 23%.
    • Mix lodge tiers. Spend on one special camp in the Serengeti and stay mid-luxury elsewhere.
    • Drive the Northern Circuit. Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti connect by road, so you can skip internal flights on shorter trips.

    How much to tip

Tipping is at your discretion. As a guide, allow $15–$25 per guest per day for your safari guide and $5–$10 per guest per day for camp staff, usually given at the end of your stay.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a 7-day Tanzania safari cost?

Our 7-day Great Migration safari starts from $2,730 per person. With ultra-luxury camps, a 7-day safari typically costs $10,000 or more per person. The ultra-luxury figure is an indicative estimate based on our 9-day package; ask us for a tailored 7-day quote.

Why is a Tanzania safari so expensive?

Park fees alone are $59–$83 per person per day, lodges in remote parks have high supply costs, and a private safari includes your own vehicle and guide for the whole trip.

Is a Kenya safari cheaper than Tanzania?

Kenya's Maasai Mara is closer to Nairobi, so short safaris can cost less. For a full migration safari, prices at the same lodge tier are broadly similar.

Do I pay park fees separately?

No. All park and conservation fees are included in our quoted price.

How far ahead should I book?

Book 6–12 months ahead for July–October and the calving season, when the best camps fill first.
