Overview
Rugged escarpments, sand rivers and 10% of Africa's lion population — Tanzania's second-largest park and one of its wildest.
Ruaha sits at the transition zone between East and Southern African ecosystems, giving it an unusually rich mix of species — greater and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelope alongside classic East African plains game.
The park is legendary for its lion prides, some of the largest recorded anywhere in Africa, and for its healthy population of endangered African wild dogs.
The Great Ruaha River cuts through granite hills and baobab-studded plains, drawing huge numbers of elephant and buffalo in the dry season.
