Overview
Carved from the northern Selous — a wild, water-laced wilderness bigger than Switzerland, best explored by boat, on foot, and by 4x4.
Established in 2019 from the northern sector of the Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is now Africa's largest national park and one of the wildest safari destinations left on the continent.
The Rufiji River is the lifeblood of the park, forming a system of lakes, channels and sandbanks that support hippos, crocodiles and huge herds of elephant and buffalo.
Because Nyerere allows boat safaris and walking safaris — activities banned in most northern parks — it offers a more multi-dimensional and adventurous experience.
