Kigoma is accessible by road, rail, and air. The town is connected to Dar es Salaam and Arusha by flights and the TAZARA railway, while road access is possible via well-maintained routes from major towns. Boats and ferries connect Kigoma to surrounding lakeside villages and Gombe Stream National Park.

Kigoma has a tropical lakeside climate. Daytime temperatures range from 25–30°C (77–86°F), while evenings cool to 18–22°C (64–72°F), offering comfortable conditions for outdoor activities year-round.

The area experiences two rainy seasons: long rains from March–May and short rains in November. Heavy rainfall can make some roads slippery and lake conditions choppy, but it also keeps the surrounding landscapes lush and green.
