The town is connected to Dar es Salaam and Arusha by flights and the TAZARA railway, while road access is possible via well-maintained routes from major towns. Boats and ferries connect Kigoma to surrounding lakeside villages and Gombe Stream National Park.
Kigoma has a tropical lakeside climate. Daytime temperatures range from 25–30°C (77–86°F), while evenings cool to 18–22°C (64–72°F), offering comfortable conditions for outdoor activities year-round.
The area experiences two rainy seasons: long rains from March–May and short rains in November. Heavy rainfall can make some roads slippery and lake conditions choppy, but it also keeps the surrounding landscapes lush and green.
