Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the most popular Kenya safari destinations, located in the Great Rift Valley about 160 km from Nairobi. The park is centered around Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake famous for its birdlife and scenic beauty. Despite its relatively compact size, the park offers a rich safari experience with diverse habitats including grasslands, acacia woodland, rocky escarpments, and euphorbia forests.

Lake Nakuru is especially well known as a rhino sanctuary, protecting both black and white rhinos, making it one of the best places in Kenya to see these endangered species. The park is also home to lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, and Rothschild’s giraffes. With over 400 bird species recorded, it remains a strong destination for birdwatching, including flamingos, pelicans, and African fish eagles.

Because of its proximity to Nairobi and its well-developed road network, Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for day trips, short safaris, and first-time visitors to Kenya. Scenic viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill offer panoramic views over the lake and surrounding Rift Valley landscapes.
