Kenya’s Out of Africa Safari Experience

Your Out of Africa Safari begins upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where a Williamson Adventures representative will meet you and assist with customs for a seamless arrival. From there, you will be transferred to Hemingways Nairobi, a luxurious boutique hotel just 15 minutes from the vibrant city center. Nairobi, the home of Danish author Baroness Karen Blixen, is the perfect starting point for your safari adventure.

After check-in, take time to explore the 10-acre grounds overlooking the Mbagathi River, relax on the patio’s wicker furniture as the sun sets, or enjoy the hotel’s gym, steam room, and sauna. Sample inventive cocktails at the Hemingways Bar, then prepare for a full-day private Nairobi city tour. Highlights include a visit to the well-preserved Karen Blixen farmhouse (1917–1931) and the Bomas of Kenya, where you can immerse yourself in the lifestyle and culture of Kenya’s many tribes.

Wake up to a refreshing breakfast overlooking the Ngong Hills, then meet your driver for a transfer to Wilson Airport. From there, board a light aircraft to Cottar’s 1920s Camp, a historic and award-winning luxury safari camp located in a private conservancy just one kilometer from the world-famous Masai Mara.

The camp combines the charm of a bygone era with modern comforts, offering an authentic safari experience with a touch of indulgence. Highlights include a canvas bush bath in the savannah with Champagne, a sunset drive in a vintage wooden-panelled safari vehicle, and the attentive services of a private butler with silver service. Enjoy stargazing, educational talks, conservation experiences, coffee tasting, and foraging, while dining is a lavish affair with three-course dinners or intimate tables set up in the bush.

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to Angama Mara, perched high above the floor of the Great Rift Valley at a site where many scenes from Out of Africa were filmed. The lodge offers breathtaking views of the Masai Mara, with 15 spacious tented suites featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows to make the most of the dramatic landscape.

Relax on the iconic red chairs with a copy of Out of Africa or enjoy a private picnic atop the Out of Africa Kopje, a tribute to the film’s famed poster. The old-world picnic includes canvas safari chairs, a wicker basket with elegant snacks, sparkling wine on ice, a blanket, and cushions, all set against panoramic views of the sun setting over the Mara.

Day 9 marks the conclusion of your Out of Africa Safari. After a delicious breakfast at your lodge, you will board a light aircraft for a 45-minute flight to Wilson Airport, followed by a short transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward international flight home.
