7 Days Migration Safaris – River Crossing

Overview

This seven-day safari takes you deep into the Serengeti’s northern region, offering front-row seats to one of nature’s most breathtaking events – the river crossings of the Great Migration. Between July and October, immense herds of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope attempt dangerous crossings over the Mara or Grumeti rivers, risking their lives in the crocodile-infested waters. Each day is filled with game drives following the herds, with opportunities to observe lions and other predators lying in wait. Your nights are spent in comfortable lodges or luxury camps near the action.

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha

On arrival at either Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), a representative from Williamson Adventures will greet you and provide transportation to your accommodation in Arusha. After Breakfast, you will begin departure from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. As you enter Tarangire National Park, get ready for a day filled with diverse wildlife encounters. Day 3: Tarangire to Central Serengeti National Park

you’ll leave Tarangire early after breakfast, enjoying a scenic drive through Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes en route to Central Serengeti. Arriving in the Serengeti by midday, you’ll head straight out for an exciting afternoon game drive, exploring the plains and spotting wildlife like lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras. After hours of adventure, you’ll make your way to your lodge or camp in the early evening, where you’ll check in and unwind with dinner, reflecting on the incredible day’s experiences amidst the Serengeti’s stunning sunset.

Day 4 : Central Serengeti - Northern Serengeti

Begin your day with a morning game drive in the Central Serengeti’s Seronera Valley, famous for its resident big cats and diverse wildlife. After breakfast, depart northwards toward the Northern Serengeti, enjoying wildlife sightings along the way as the landscape shifts from open plains to more rugged terrain. This region is especially known for its river crossings during the Great Migration (July to October), with wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River. After a picnic lunch en route, spend the afternoon exploring the Northern Serengeti, searching for large predator activity and watching for potential river crossings. Day 5 : Full Day Northern Serengeti

Start your day early with a focused game drive along the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti, aiming to witness the dramatic river crossings during the Great Migration (July to October). Watch as thousands of wildebeest and zebras gather at the riverbanks, navigating the perilous crossing while facing waiting predators like crocodiles and lions. After a bush breakfast by the river, continue following the herds, keeping an eye out for further crossings and predator action throughout the day. Enjoy a packed lunch in the field, then spend the afternoon exploring different river vantage points to maximize your chances of seeing additional crossings. Conclude with a sunset drive before heading back to your lodge for the evening.

Day 6 : Northern Serengeti To Ngorongoro Crater

Begin your day with an early breakfast, followed by a final morning game drive in the Northern Serengeti, where you can spot wildlife such as lions, elephants, and possibly witness one last river crossing if the migration is still in progress. Afterward, start your journey south towards Ngorongoro Crater, a drive that takes approximately 6-7 hours with scenic views along the way, passing through the vast Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Enjoy a packed lunch en route and arrive at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the afternoon. Settle into your lodge on the crater rim, with breathtaking views of the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Relax for the evening and prepare for an exciting crater game drive the following day.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater- Kilimanjaro Airport

After morning breakfast at your lodge Ngorongoro, you’ll depart for your journey to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Enjoy the scenic drive through the highlands and rural villages of Tanzania as you make your way towards the airport. Depending on your flight time, you may stop for a final lunch along the way or for some souvenir shopping in towns like Arusha. Arrive at JRO in time for your departure, concluding your incredible safari adventure in Tanzania. Safe travels!
